Nikki Foxx Still Has the Beat After 20 Years

T minus 1 day and counting.  If you are looking for something absolutely fun to do on Friday night, head out to Luciana’s Rural Oaks in Ottawa, IL and check out the second of two Nikki Foxx 20th reunion shows.  I got to see them last weekend for their Quad Cities’ show at RIBCO and was amazed that after twenty years, they are still everything they were back in the day without question! Despite singer Haze Lee Finn’s onstage protestations that everyone has aged well, especially himself, it was like being back in the late eighties and early nineties -- well, minus our own stock in Depends and wrinkles crinkling around our eyes.  The place was full of fans from all areas who’ve been waiting for this reunion show.

From the moment they (Finn, Lenny V and Chris Farrell guitarists, John Davidson – bassist, and Mark Pyszka – drummer), stormed the stage and Finn raced out clad in his cowboy hat kicking the music in, we got to rock out once again to songs oozing with sex, summertime, “Dirty Girls,” not-so-discreet bathroom stall activities, black leather, high heels, going out all night and sleeping all day all to the treat of slamming riffs and screaming intros.   Finn’s deep guttural “yeah’s” in concert with the grueling guitars and intense bass lines radiated the place and took fans back to the day where the topics of their songs were a lifeline to life itself.
The infamous “woo who who’s” in Finn’s grainy raw voice and his outspoken energy reminded us to reminisce those days of short skirts and “missing the last call.”  The set was definitely impressive and lasted the duration to cover not only all their hits, but included a few covers as well.  The guitar work on Motley Crue’s “Too Fast for Love,” was so heavy, twanging at the right spots complete with high and low crescendo.  The drum work in all the songs, punctuated the air at noticeable beats and accentuated Finn’s sultry gritty vocals and perfect melodic beat of the entire band.

I heard a story, or ten, that mirror my own that night: “I had this cassette tape and ….. over the years….”    Nikki Foxx definitely had replacements CD’s “If You Ain’t Been Foxxed, You Ain’t Been Fucked,” and “The Drug Years.”  The Foxxed Album includes all your favorite early hits – “Dirty Girls, Motorcycle Boy, Psycho Emotion, Do you Wanna Do Me, The Beat Goes on, Touch Da Monkey and Donna Wanna” and the “Drug Years” features music from when Nikki Foxx became the four piece darker-come-down-from-glam-band “Drug.”   Both reasonably priced are a true asset to any Foxx fan! With only one show left for Nikki Foxx’s reunion and a need to be young again, you need to be in Ottawa on Friday night!  You don’t want to miss this!
